Chico Anysio
is one of the biggest names in Brazilian comedy. Yet strangely
enough for the creator of an unforgettable range of characters
on television, Tieta is his first film after an
absence of 25 years. He plays Tieta's father who throws her out
of his house when she is 17. Chico says, "If it was possible
to make a living in films in Brazil, I wouldn't do anything else.
Playing Zé was an immense pleasure, he enabled me to use
the full range of my voice. In films, acting is more subtle than
on TV, requiring greater awareness from the actor."
Anysio defines
his character as "a typical colonel from North-East Brazil
who shows no respect for women." He sees Tieta's generosity
as way of clearing her conscience but "in spite of everything
Tieta was Zé Esteves's favourite daughter and he loved
her."
